The Los Angeles Area Alumni Association began as an interest group with two kick-off events, about a year apart from each other. The first was an initial interest gathering on June 5, 2005 at Canter's Deli, right in the heart of Los Angeles. On September 23, 2006 we had a pizza social at Shakey's, after having sent out a letter of invitation via traditional mail. Since then, we've held three or more events per year, including singing at convalescent homes. Read about what took place at each of our past events.
The Los Angeles Area Alumni Association was chartered by the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America on August 18, 2008. This Association is a group of Sinfonians that gathers together at events, engages in musical community service, and works toward reaching common goals.
The mission of the Los Angeles Area Alumni Association is to foster lifetime involvement and interaction of alumni brothers locally through social, musical, service, financial, and professional means; and to develop and maintain a positive public image through media exposure of its endeavors.
The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit, the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students, the advancement of music in America, and a loyalty to the Alma Mater.
The Los Angeles Area Alumni Association intends to cater to its diverse membership. As alumni, our priorities change from time to time, but the group is interested in serving all alumni throughout the year, whether by organizing social or musical events, providing a forum for professional networking, connecting with local chapters, or whatever the membership is interested in throughout the year.
The 2008 officers are as follows:
- Christopher Thaxter, Delta Pi '96, President.
- Lee Stokes, Kappa Iota '76, Vice President of Events.
- Ryan Basham, Lambda Sigma '05, Vice President of Communications.
- Zach Nichols, Gamma Theta '84, Treasurer.
- Andy Wolf, Iota '90, Secretary.
The latest (and first) bylaws were adopted by the Executive Committee at its January 24, 2008 meeting.
